Privacy Policy for IFC Canvas

Last updated: 18 August 2026

IFC Canvas is a touch-first BIM (Building Information Modeling) review tool for iPad. This policy explains how IFC Canvas handles your information.

The short version: IFC Canvas does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. Everything you do in the app stays on your device.

Summary

Information stored on your device

When you use IFC Canvas, the following is stored locally on your device, inside the app's private storage, and is never transmitted by the app:

You can remove this data at any time by deleting projects within the app or by deleting the app from your device.

BCF author identity

IFC Canvas lets you author BCF coordination issues and comments. If you set an author name and email in the app, they are stored locally on your device. They are embedded into a BCF file only when you choose to export or share that file. This is standard BCF format behavior, so collaborators can see who raised an issue. The app never transmits this information on its own; sharing a BCF file is always an action you initiate, and you control who receives it.

Subscriptions and payments

IFC Canvas offers an optional auto-renewable subscription (IFC Canvas Pro) that unlocks the multi-model Projects workspace; opening a single file is always free.

All purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. IFC Canvas never sees, receives, or stores your payment-card details or billing information, and it has no account system of its own. The free trial is a local, on-device timer. It requires no sign-up, and no information leaves your device to start or track it. Apple's handling of your purchase and subscription data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Diagnostics

IFC Canvas uses Apple's on-device MetricKit framework to record crash and performance diagnostics. These diagnostic reports are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted by IFC Canvas to any server.

Separately, iOS itself may share aggregated, anonymized diagnostic data with app developers through Apple's "Analytics & Improvements" system, but only if you have opted in under Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements. That sharing is performed by Apple, governed by Apple's privacy policy, and is entirely under your control; IFC Canvas operates no crash-reporting or analytics pipeline of its own.

Device backups

If you have iCloud Backup or device backups enabled, your projects and imported files may be included in those backups according to your own backup settings. These backups are managed by Apple and your device, not by IFC Canvas. (Large regenerable caches are explicitly excluded from backups to save space.)

Children's privacy

IFC Canvas does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. The app is rated 4+ and contains no objectionable content, no advertising, and no data collection.

Third-party components

IFC Canvas includes open-source software for local geometry processing and rendering (including IfcOpenShell, Open CASCADE, Three.js, and web-ifc). These components run entirely on your device and do not collect or transmit data. Their licenses are acknowledged within the app's About screen.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a revised "Last updated" date.
